At the suggestion of the Saarland amateur astronomers association (Amateurastronomen des Saarlandes e.V.), the "Healthy light for nature and people" project was launched with the support of the Sankt Wendeler Land Tourist Office, the municipalities of Nohfelden and Nonnweiler, Energis and the European Academy of Otzenhausen in order to reduce light pollution in Sankt Wendel County.
The aim of the project is to minimise night-time light pollution through the use of sustainable lighting, thereby improving living conditions for nature and people.
The local councils of the national park municipalities of Nohfelden and Nonnweiler adopted strict lighting guidelines back in 2018. By converting lighting in the long term, the project partners are trying to create the conditions for a larger light conservation area in Sankt Wendel County.
